History

This year we will celebrate the 30th anniversary of ABAS Software AG. Our result after 30 years is something to be proud of: continuos growth, a continuously increasing customer base worldwide, and independence from banks an investor. We habe been consistantly producing positive figures for 16 years.

Description

abas Business Software includes abas ERP for production, abas Distribution for distribution, wholesale, and service companies, and the eBusiness solution abas eB. abas ERP is an ERP application designed specifically for manufacturers in the Assemble-to-Order, Make-to-Order and Engineer-to-Order environment. abas Business Software is priced to fit most budgets while delivering full ERP functionality. It is flexible, adaptable, internationally applicable and a save investment for the future. The clear structure and well thought-out implementation strategy of the system enable a short implementation period as well as trouble-free integration into the company structure. New functions and technologies are constantly added to the standard software with each new upgrade. As a result, abas users are always using the most up-to-date product. abas Business Software is currently offered in 28 languages. ABAS has been a supporter of the open source operating system Linux since 1995. Approximately 80% of over 2,500 abas installations are based in Linux.

Target group

The core competence of ABAS is the development of flexible ERP and eBusiness software for midsize companies with up to 1000 employees. The offices in Karlsruhe have 115 employees and including around 50 abas partners worldwide there is a total of approximately 600 employees.

Future plans

Web technology: eBusiness and Portal
Web technology is a fixed component of the business software at ABAS. Web solutions such as eShops, CRM and service support around the world, but also SCM (Supply Chain management) applications to optimize multifaceted processes between business partners are a fixed part of abas Business Software. Web applications are becoming an increasingly larger part of abas Business Software.

New User Interface
The step from the graphical user interface to the socalled ”Natural User Interface“ (NUI) is predicted to be a groundbreaking development. What one understands under NUI is that the operation is through ”natural movement“, by touching the screen and hand movements over the screen – operation without a keyboard, for example. This is only an example of how new operation concepts become part of the ERP software. Language entry is also becoming increasingly significant. New operation concepts are a highly significant topic for ABAS.

Business Intelligence
In order to be able to generate planned figures, and to make strategical decisions, the varied data used in the ERP system is analyzed. Business Intelligence plays a central role here. This is an important topic for ABAS which is being worked on intensively.

 

Long-term development

Cloud Computing & Software as a Service (SaaS)
Cloud Computing and SaaS are topics which have goals such as reliability and performance to low costs. Calculating and memory capacity available in the Web are used. Which capacities these are and where they are is not relevant for the user because it is performance-related. The user hardly requires an individual IT infrastructure because the provider supplies the required calculation and memory capacity and also the security, upgrades and much more. This topic only plays a part in specific areas of a midsize company in the near future.

Mobility
25 years ago we set up our first remote access with the aid of a telephone acoustic coupler with a transmission rate of 300 baud, that is to say 300 characters per second. This was faster than driving to the customer, but one couldn‘t really work properly with it. Now we have networks with a transmission rate of multiple megabits, which are a million times faster. Smartphones, iPad, iPhone, UMTS etc. are state of the art these days. Today, ABAS develops applications and tools on devices like the iPhone, iPad, and other smartphones to enable mobility and ensure productivity for our customers around the world.

Functionality
Of course there are many functionalities which can be added to an ERP software. Not only the expansion of functionalities to improve business processes is part of the future, but also providing answers to questions about business strategy. In the future it is expected to be able to analyze the data used in the ERP system and to be able to generate planned figures, and to make strategical decisions from this data. Business Intelligence plays a central role here. For ABAS this is an important topic which is being worked on intensively.

Enterprise Application Integration (EAI)
The seamless integration of software of different manufacturers is another trend. Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) for the secure integration of different applications, or the integration through web services, are important components. ABAS already provides several solutions in this area which have also already been implemented for users.
